For this project, I had the chance to experience what being a freelancer is like. I chose the competition: Enter the Great Outdoors. This project was the most challenging for me as a designer to step out my comfort zone and then think of a concept that is interesting and simulating. Through thorough research into the great outdoors. I found key links between the outdoors and positive physical and mental health benefits. This research helped me formulate a concept around how the weather effects people’s mood. I progressed my concept from research visits that included taking walks around country parks to see how my mood changed throughout the trip.
Throughout the project I learnt key skills such as setting myself goals by completing a daily planner and documenting my findings within a journal. The journal was helpful to express my feelings within different weather conditions and to state what I have learnt about myself as a designer throughout this module. My outcomes for this project included to create a range CAD designs and visualisations for an adventure led target market with a key focus on male consumers. My final collection demonstrated seven print designs that could be used for male clothing, with a visualisation on two boards to show potential products. From this project, I learnt how to work independently setting my own goals and targets. This Included a refined brief, researching into trend analysis such as the trend prediction company WGSN. I learnt how valuable in-depth research was and how it guided my project and experimentation within drawing and designing. I learnt that freelancer experience is something I thoroughly enjoyed and would like to consider in my future career.

Here are some of my prints that I have designed and had made for gifts. The cushion is the Lavender Hue Dilly Dilly print from the Rosa May collection, printed onto 100% cotton. The clock print is the Tropical Rosemary design also from the Rosa May collection. All designs are my own work that was printed using Zazzle. For more information about my designs, products or any other personal commission work please don't hesitate to email me with any enquires.
This project was the introduction of the second year at university. For this project, I could choose between two trends Common Ground or In Touch. I choose the trend Common ground that was focussing on connecting the world, being part of a community and protecting the environment. I learnt key skills within the project including:
I learnt new techniques specific from my personal concept such as understanding how to trap objects in resin. This is something I decided to experiment as part of my trend. As the key words, I focussed my concept around was “Protection”, “Nature”, “Local craft and Community”. An interesting process I learnt was trapping objects in resin for a sense of security and protection. My inspiration for this project came from locally found objects in the British countryside. I gathered this information I found from walks including acorns, leafs, twigs and flowers. I drew from the objects together representing a community of local found objects. My final outcomes for this project included a variety of fabric samples including screen and digital print designs showing a diverse range of design compositions. During this project, I learnt how to use a variety of print machinery including the Sublimation and pigment printers.
